ABOUT THE ROSE:

The Korean Alt Pop band is composed of four members: vocalist and guitarist Woosung,

vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Dojoon, bassist Jaehyeong, and drummer Hajoon. Renowned since their inception for electrifying performances, The Rose quickly became one of Korea's most sought-after groups delivering a series of critically acclaimed albums that resonated with fans worldwide. In 2019, three of the band members temporarily went on hiatus to fulfill their mandatory military service obligations, during which Woosung pursued a successful solo career, releasing captivating albums and embarking on sold-out world tours. In a moment of sheer joy for their devoted fans, The Rose reunited during one of Woosung's performances in South Korea in 2022. This reunion paved the way for their first full-length album HEAL, which was inspired by the transformative power of music and the stories shared by both their fans and themselves. HEAL soared to #4 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart, while their accompanying HEAL Together World Tour drew an overwhelming crowd of over 90,000 attendees. Now, with their sophomore full-length album DUAL which made the Mediabase 200 chart in its first week of sales, The Rose takes their music to new heights with Rolling Stone UK calling it “an album that takes you on a layered, emotional journey, full of elation, heartache and twists and turns - just like life itself.” Building upon the emotional honesty and vulnerability showcased in HEAL, this latest offering explores the profound concept of 'balance.' Seamlessly merging light and dark elements, The Rose masterfully weaves emotions and sounds, capturing the dualistic essence that defines their music.

Sponge Cola finds connection in uncertain times on ninth studio album, Hometown, Part 2

Filipino alt-rock outfit Sponge Cola has officially dropped their ninth studio album, Hometown, Part 2 via Sony Music Entertainment.

----------------------------------------------
The anthemic pop-rock album includes focus track “So Close,” featuring
award-winning pop singer Morissette
----------------------------------------------

Embracing the anthemic immediacy of their 2022 outing with newfound warmth and restraint, the four-piece band’s latest album proves to be a vital example of how music can be a therapeutic outlet for expression and healing. The new collection of songs also sees the band exploring themes of triumph over adversity, resilience, and unfulfilled relationships. It also serves as a continuation of the band’s full-length album, Hometown—released in December 2022.

As lead guitarist Armo Armovit describes it, Hometown, Part 2 is all about finding connection in uncertain times. “We explored new ways of expressing familiar feelings with renewed perspectives incorporating different production elements, arrangement choices, and improved approaches to performance.”

The title also speaks for itself, serving as a continuation of one’s story, much like coming home to rest after a long journey and staying an extra weekend to reset. The record’s songwriting, on the other hand, was inspired by the members’ collective and individual fascination with K-drama and documentaries, as well as first-hand experiences with real-life events.

Drawing a lot of inspiration from pop and electronic elements, the 19-track album is produced by constant collaborator Joey Santos of Love One Another Studios, who has worked with some of the biggest and most underrated Philippine acts, including Ang Bandang Shirley, syd hartha, Coeli, and more.

Armo explains, “Joey Santos did a great job crafting the treatment for songs and dressing them in colors and styles that best express the message. The process was very organic and natural.”

Hometown, Part 2 is accompanied by the release of its focus track, “So Close,” which features pop singer Morissette. The song was specifically penned by Yael Yuzon, and tackles the story of two people who have built a deep connection over time, but whose relationship never really progressed into something that could last a lifetime.

“It's a song that took me 20 years to write,” shares vocalist and guitarist Yael Yuzon. “Inspired by Dead Stars by Paz Marquez Benitez and The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, So Close talks about the possibility of a mirage in our poetic memory, a ‘what if’ that may have been nothing more than a light radiating from a dead star. We might just be romanticizing things.”

Other songs in the album include previous releases “Labis-labis,” a soaring tune that puts a uniquely captivating but relatable spin on the ‘love song’ format; “Hometown,” a grungy pop track with electronic textures and a catchy chorus; and “Siguro nga,” a pop-rock ballad based on a character study of a popular K-drama character.

Track list:

1. Hometown

2.  Alamat (MLBB 5th Anniversary Theme)

The Itchyworms dedicate new song “Panic In My Mind” to Chino Singson

The upbeat, ‘60s-inspired track can also be interpreted in many ways, according to lead vocalist and drummer Jazz Nicolas

The Itchyworms are back with an upbeat, retro-pop tune that deals with the dread of knowing that your loved one will be moving away to a different place for good.

Their new single “Panic In My Mind” was specifically written for their bandmate Chino Singson, who moved to Canada with his family to start a new life.

But according to Jazz Nicolas (lead vocals, drums, piano, keyboards, and keytar), who wrote the song based on a real-life event, the meaning behind “Panic In My Mind” can be taken in multiple ways. “The second half of the song shifts the narrative to a bitter person whose ex-partner in now with someone else, and is having a jealous existential crisis because of that.”

The Itchyworms' signature sound lives on in "Panic in My Mind," which blends intricate vocal harmonies and colorful melodies with ‘60s-style pop. A perfect accompaniment for its lyrics, which talk about pining over someone in a world where they are the anomaly, the arrangement turns up the excitement a few more notches with its nuanced musicality. It’s done with effortless grace and less of theatrics.

“We were going for a more organic sound with acoustic instruments as opposed to our previous album, Waiting For The End To Start, which had a lot of electronic elements,” Nicolas explains. “It also has a ‘60s vibe due to the jangly guitars and three-part harmonies.”

“Panic In My Mind” is produced by Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso. The latter is a long-time friend and collaborator, who is now officially part of the band.

“He co-produced the song with us, played various instruments, and sang harmonies,” Nicolas adds.

The Itchyworms are set to embark on their first US tour, dubbed “Akin Ka Na Lang, Amerika.”

The multi-city concert kicks off on March 24 in New York City, New York and will wrap up on April 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Here are the official dates and venues:

March 24 - New York (D'Haven),

March 25 - Fort Worth (Ridglea Theater)

March 26 - San Antonio (The Grand Event Center),

March 29 - Houston (Gerry's Grill),

March 31 - San Francisco (Bal Theater):

April 1 - Los Angeles (The Noypitz DTLA)

April 2 - San Diego (Lola Happy Bistro)

April 5 - Chicago (Michella Terrace)

April 7 - Las Vegas (Diversion Amusements)

The Itchyworms release second installment of holiday-themed album, Christmas Starts When The Bers Begin

The continuously expanding record contains two new tracks “Halo-Halo and “Meri Xmas 2 U”

The Itchyworms continue to celebrate their 25th anniversary with the second installment of their holiday-themed album, Christmas Starts When The Bers Begin—out today, December 8, 2021 (Wednesday) on all digital music platforms via Sony Music Philippines

Capturing the spirit of Pinoy Christmas with songs that will surely make its way into classic status, Christmas Starts When The Bers Begin contains two new tracks, “Halo-Halo” and “Meri Xmas 2 U,” and last year’s “Have A Merry Christmas” and “Maligayang Pasko.”

Written and produced by drummer and lead vocalist Jazz Nicolas, “Halo-Halo” is a festive reinforcement of the classic tradition with characteristically Pinoy sensibilities. It’s an upbeat tune that celebrates the Yuletide season in a way that feels home.

According to Jazz, “Halo-Halo” is a metaphorical reference to the various beliefs and traditions of Filipinos about Christmas. “There are people who believe in God, there are people who just shop, and there are people who consider it as a perfect time for receiving gifts. It all happens during Christmas, and it’s a magical feeling for everyone.”

Another new offering, “Meri Xmas 2 U” is a fun and sparkly reimagining of the Pinoy Christmas carols in one rocking shimmy treat. Complete with kundiman-charged guitars, raw percussions and tambourine sounds, and infectious vocal harmonies, the track pays tribute to the street caroling traditions in the country during the pre-pandemic times.

“This is an ode to the kids who knock on doors to sing Christmas songs,” lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jugs Jugueta shares. “They rarely have real instruments with them, but sometimes when they’re lucky, they bring acoustic guitars or makeshift tools. They use cans with stretched plastic on top for the ‘drums’ and flattened tansan as tambourines. While they don’t sing in perfect tune, the happy Christmas vibe that they bring is what gets you and tugs your heartstrings.”

“Meri Xmas 2 U” is written by Jugs Jugueta, and performed by the alt-rock band with their families and friends who sang and played makeshift instruments: Jug’s wife Andie, Chino’s brother Echo, Jazz’s brother Peavey and his fiancé Antonette, and their road manager Gabs.

The 2021 AWIT Awards Winner for Best Musical Arrangement also plans to add more songs every year to complete the Yuletide-themed album. This well-curated process gives them the opportunity to create music at their own pace while giving casual listeners something to uplift their spirits before the year ends.

As Jugs put it, “It is an ever-growing Christmas album. We released two Christmas songs last year, then we added two more this year, and we plan on releasing more Christmas songs every year! And every time we add songs, we also add elements to the album cover. It’s now streaming on Spotify and other digital platforms, but once we have enough Christmas songs, we hope to release it as a physical album on vinyl.”

Christmas Starts When The Bers Begin is part of the band’s celebration of their 25th year in the Philippine music industry, which follows the release of their original track “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” and the six-part series, Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast.

The year-long musical treat commenced with the vinyl pressing of their album, Waiting For The End To Start, which immediately sold out upon its release, the launch of “The Life I Know,” the first of its kind in the Philippine stop-motion animation music video, and the release of “Waiting For The End To Start” music video, which serves as an artistic take on the ‘dystopian future post-pandemic’ life in the Philippines.

The Itchyworms are also set to drop a mockumentary that chronicles their 25 years in the music industry at the end of the year.

“Halo-Halo” and “Meri Xmas 2 U” are out now on all digital music platforms via Sony Music Philippines. Listen to the partial batch of ‘Christmas Starts When The Bers Begin’ here.

The Itchyworms release new song “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” and a Spotify Music + Talk Show series to mark continued 25th anniversary celebration

The Itchyworms celebrate their era-defining legacy with the release of their new single “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” and the six-part series, Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast as part of the band’s continued 25th anniversary celebration.

The year-long musical treat follows the success of Waiting For The End To Start, which was pressed on vinyl and immediately sold out upon its release, and the launch of “The Life I Know,” the first of its kind in the Philippine stop-motion animation music video, which garnered critical acclaim across the board.

25th Anniversary single

Returning to their brand of melodic pop-rock sensibilities with sharp hooks, bluesy guitar lines, and timeless lyrics, the multi-awarded Filipino band has dropped a call-and-response anthem about hurdling through the difficult times with a more hopeful mindset in life.

According to drummer and lead vocalist Jazz Nicolas, the song documents the feeling of being stuck in a challenging phase for a very long period, while hoping that everything will be fine. “You’re not quite there yet, but you feel that things are moving up a bit,” he emphasizes. “Kel and I call this the dark ages; it’s when all areas of your life seemed very bleak, and you always feel like there's no way out. In this song, you’re not out yet, but you have a feeling that you will be.”

Even before the pandemic happened, The Itchyworms have always wanted to produce a jam song that would make for a strong album opener. Most of their newer tracks gravitate toward the uncertainty of the future or the long-simmering anxiety brought by the lockdown. “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw),” however, confronts the situation that we’re in with the healing power of a catchy, upbeat guitar-pop tune. It’s a perfect fit for what a 25th anniversary should be: a commitment to represent the band’s music and the history held within it.

When the lockdown slightly eased, the band regrouped into the legendary Big Baby Studios, where some of the alt-rock quartet’s most notable hits were born. “Big Baby was always home to The Itchyworms, especially to Jazz, because this was his father’s original studio in their ancestral home,” lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jugs Jugueta shares in a statement. “I remember recording the first few demos of The Itchyworms there. I also remember Tito Sonny showing us all of his guitars, and Chino and I were just in awe. Now, it has come full circle: Jazz and Peavey and the worms continue Tito Sonny’s legacy, and the fact that we recorded our 25th Anniversary single there means so much to us.”

The Itchyworms reworked the early version of the track by adding lyrics that pay homage to their story together as a group and even referenced some of their old songs in the material. Mixed and mastered by Jazz’s brother Peavy Nicolas, “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” finds the band experimenting with a Moog Little Phatty analog synth and a Yamaha Reface YC, bringing a unique twist on their classic sound. “It's good that we finally got to go into the studio for this,” Nicolas shares the process behind the recording. “We all recorded our instruments live in the studio. and all four of us sang on it.” The Itchyworms’ guitarist Chino Singson adds, “Plus the outro or coda is totally unrelated to the tonal center of the song, but it adds a Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour vibe.”

Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Show

To celebrate the release of their 25th anniversary single, the band launched Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast, a six-part series that explores the long-lasting appeal and impact of their albums in their 25 years of existence as a band. Produced by The Itchyworms and Sony Music Philippines, the show leverages Spotify’s latest format Music + Talk format, a new type of audio experience that brings together music tracks and spoken commentary, wrapped up into one immersive and interactive listening experience.

“I guess this is our version of the Beatles’ Anthology series,” Jugueta reveals. “Because that was the Beatles’ story as told by the Beatles. This show is our story, our history, our legacy as told by The Itchyworms ourselves. Look forward to stories that have never been shared before!”

The Itchyworms will have important guests who will be joining them on the show. Jugueta explains, “This project is very close to our hearts, and we would like to thank Sony Music Philippines for producing it and to Wincy Ong for directing it and to Peavey Nicolas for recording and mixing it.”

The Itchyworms are also set to release a mockumentary that chronicles their 25 years in the music industry and a music video of their self-titled track “Waiting For The End To Start,” whose visual narrative serves as an artistic take on the ‘dystopian future post-pandemic’ life in the Philippines.

The Itchyworms’ new single “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines. Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast is also available on Spotify.

LANY, vivo encourages millennials to ignite the night in the “new normal”

For globally-successful pop band, LANY, the Philippines will forever remain memorable because it is where they staged their first-ever arena concert, at no less than the Smart Araneta Coliseum in 2018.

LANY frontman Paul Klein even tweeted “Best night of my life without a doubt. Thank you, Manila” after the sold-out event.

Today, after dozens of crowd-drawing concerts worldwide, LANY—composed of Paul, drummer Jake Gross and keyboardist Les Priest—is about to sing their way back to the hearts of Filipino fans, via an upcoming album, “Mama’s Boy”.

Recently, the band has also been introduced as the latest brand ambassadors of leading technology company, vivo.

With “Mama’s Boy”, the trio has found inspiration in looking back at their own journey as a band, from finding their unique sound, to finding global success in the music industry that perhaps started with their Manila concert.

Paul, Jake, and Les formed LANY, an acronym for “Los Angeles New York”, in Los Angeles in 2015. With poetic lyrics on love and heartbreak, a dream-like soundscape, and modern aesthetic, the group easily captured millennials’ attention after releasing their self-titled debut album.

With hits such as “ILYSB”, “Thru These Tears”, and “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore”, LANY has since been selling out multiple nights across the Philippines. Their music, best enjoyed at night, has become an inspiration for millennials to make the most out of evenings, preventing them from simply slipping away.

And as the latest brand ambassadors of vivo in the Philippines, LANY calls on their Filipino fans to continue to do the same.

“Mabuhay Philippines, we are LANY and we are so excited to be the new members of the vivo family. We’re having so much fun with the all-new vivo V19. Go and check it out, it will definitely ignite your night,” said the band in a video posted on vivo Philippine’s Facebook page.

With this partnership, vivo and LANY invite millennials to ignite their night with the vivo V19 Neo, a phone that boasts of a super night mode camera feature and enhanced gaming capabilities–-perfect for work-from-home millennials who pursue their passions at night.

Heed LANY and vivo’s call to “ignite your night” and get your hands on the brand-new vivo V19 Neo today through Vivo's official website, Shopee, and Lazada.

CHVRCHES HEADLINES THE BIG DOME

Third time’s the charm for Glaswegian synth-pop trio Chvrches as the band returns for their biggest headline show ever in Manila happening on August 13 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as part of their Love Is Dead 2019 Asia Tour.

Crafting songs with notable synths and edgy hooks, Chvrches combine their roots in Glasgow’s indie community – the group features former members of alternative rock bands with a love of chart-friendly pop. Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty made an immediate impact on the music scene in summer of 2013 with the bittersweet-yet-anthemic debut album The Bones of What You Believe, and later found ways of bringing an extra sheen to their music without sacrificing its depth.

Chvrches’ critically acclaimed third and latest album, Love Is Dead, just marked its first anniversary last May since its release, but it continues to break worldwide streaming records. The band reclaims the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts ruling both rankings for a second time. The trio scored their No. 1 on each tally, following the chart-topping debut of preceding album Every Open Eye, which also opened at No. 1 back in 2015. Tracks Get Out, Miracle, and Graffiti concurrently reign on the Hot Rock Songs chart, which blends streaming, radio airplay, and digital sales. Love Is Dead is Chvrches’ first album to feature outside production, with Greg Kurstin (hitmaker for Adele, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Sia, Foo Fighters) having produced a total of nine songs. When Chvrches began creating the record, they only had one definite plan. “We wanted to sound more like a live band,” recalls Iain Cook. “We’ve always felt like a rock band and all three of us have long histories in rock, so it was inevitable we’d eventually turn in that direction.”

Over the past eight years, Chvrches has built a loyal fan base and landed on a handful of high-profile festival gigs with their catchy synth-pop tunes. However, the group just recently notched their biggest career milestone yet with their new Marshmello collaboration, Here With Me. The blockbuster single rose to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, earning Chvrches their first ever entry to the Hot 100 list. It also debuted at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales and has charted on Dance/Mix Show Airplay for three consecutive weeks.

Chvrches is more than thrilled to incorporate all their classic hits with brand new singles on this much-anticipated global tour. Indeed, the Scottish pop band is experienced at finding balance between fresh songs that are exciting to play and old favorites that the crowd demands for. Chvrches lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry says, “We go to enough shows ourselves and watch bands we like to what's a good mix. You have to be aware that yes, it's a creative process for you, but you're there because people love those songs. Just give the people what they want."

Other Chvrches hits include The Mother We Share, Gun, My Enemy, Never Say Die, Leave A Trace, Recover, among many others.

Chvrches’ Love Is Dead 2019 Asia Tour live in Manila is presented by Ovation Productions in cooperation with TAP Sports and FOXlife. Ticket prices are P5,810/ 4,760/ 3,700/ 2,640 available via www.ticketnet.com.phand TicketNet outlets. Catch another remarkable and heartfelt performance and fall in love once again with Lifehouse. The series of hits of this group captured the pulse of the Filipino’s love for love songs. Though Lifehouse songs are radio friendly rock songs, their kind of music centers on love, losing someone, faith, life and survival. It is not surprising that this American rock band was able to maintain a solid fan base in this country.

With their first hit single “Hanging by A Moment”, the band was catapulted into commercial recognition. Followed by “You and Me” from their self-titled album “Lifehouse.” and strings of hits followed through these years.

Songs in their earlier albums also talks about faith and believing, which also added to their allure as Christian music. Their lyrics it “Take Me Away”, “Everything” and “Breathing” may be interpreted as an ode to God but their words were not imposing, it’s sweet, sentimental and moving. Their strength lies in their ability to effectively speak of feelings, without sounding force. This songwriting style gave them the edge over other alternative rock bands.

Since then, Lifehouse has released 7 albums. The latest “Out of the Wasteland” (released May 2015) was what Jason Wade referred to as “returning to our roots.” Even music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine described it as an “immaculately constructed record, easing between insistent midtempo anthems and power ballads...” and Christian Media Cross Rhythm’s Philip Laing describing it as “overall an impressive return to form by the mainstream stalwarts.” Stalwarts, what an apt description for a band that can deliver so much emotion and meaning in their music.

Whatever It Takes, Lifehouse is one of the most played artists in the history of Hot AC with over 1.4 billion Pandora Plays to date.

Lifehouse is composed of Jason Wade in rhythmn guitar and vocals, Ben Carey in lead guitar, Rich Woolstenhulme Jr on drums and Bryce Soderberg on bass guitar.

Generating rave reviews on Ticketmaster for all their live concerts, one can’t help but be excited once again, see the band in action. Lifehouse brought the house down before and now they are coming back to a bigger stage at Mall of Asia Arena on the 8th of October, 2015 as brought to you by CCA Live Productions and Midas.

Set aside those YouTube videos and grab your coats and concert tickets! No heavy rains and extreme heat can stop this now, Lifehouse is coming!

One Direction's Brand New Single 'Steal My Girl' premiered on radio worldwide on September 29

‘Steal My Girl’ as the first single from their eagerly anticipated new album ‘FOUR’ of the famous pop band One Direction. ‘Steal My Girl’ is premiered on radio and released globally on September 29th, excluding the UK and Ireland where it is released on 12th October.

Over cascading stadium piano chords, ‘Steal My Girl’ shows the band continuing to expand their influences and song-writing ability while retaining their widescreen pop sound. ‘Steal My Girl’ is written by Louis and Liam with Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan – the collaborative team behind last year’s massive ‘Best Song Ever’ – and is produced by Bunetta, Ryan and Paro Westerlund.

‘FOUR’ was announced earlier this month and fans have already had a taster of it with ‘Fireproof’, which became the most downloaded free track ever in the 24 hours it was available. ‘FOUR’ then debuted at number one in the iTunes album charts in 65 countries in its first 24 hours of being made available for pre-order – comfortably beating third album ‘Midnight Memories’, which debuted at the top in 39 countries and went on to become the top selling album of 2013 worldwide.

With a staggering 94 number ones and over 46 million records sold, in just four short years One Direction have gone from energetic pop upstarts to international superstars. As the band's song writing becomes more personal with each record, ‘FOUR’ is set to be their most stunning yet. The album follows the global success of their huge sell out ‘Where We Are’ stadium tour, which will be shown in cinemas globally for one weekend only on 11th and 12th October and released to DVD from 29th November (international release dates vary). Add all this to their 3 billion YouTube views, 110 million combined Twitter followers and 34 million Facebook fans and it’s clear that Liam, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn genuinely are a worldwide phenomenon.

'FOUR' released globally on November 17th 2014 and fans (excluding UK and Ireland) can receive ‘Steal My Girl’ instantly from September 29th if they pre-order the deluxe album on iTunes.

REO brothers band survives through music, with inspiration and hope for better future

A new band is amazing how fast became famous in Manila.

Hail from Tacloban City, it was a band composed of four brothers, Reno, RJ, Raymart and Ralph Evasco Otic, survives through music.

I saw and hear them performed at the ABS-CBN Kwento ng Pasko concert held at the Araneta Coliseum graced by over a hundred Kapamilya stars and celebrities but it was a band composed of four brothers, took to the stage a medley of The Beatles' hits such as "Here Comes the Sun" and "Hey Jude" that drew the only standing ovation of the night.

The Reo Brothers, arrived in Manila after from their typhoon-ravaged hometown, survived from the super typhoon Yolanda, they only got guitar and calling card left when typhoon swipe away their house.

I’m thankful when Ms. Arabelle Jimenez invited me (with my PB Network associates)  to the opening of Primos Cuisine and Bar in Mandaluyong, where we witnessed the awesome performance of the young brothers with undeniably talents. They sang confidently and moved like real professionals.
Lead guitar: RJ Otic
Rythm: Raymart Otic
Base: Reno Otic
Drums: Ralph Otic — at Primos Cuisine and Lounge.
As they belted out one Beatles song after another, and then moved on effortlessly to do songs of the Beachboys, Bee Gees, America and surprisingly even OPM’s VST Co.

Watching out the young boys as they perform great music, I can say they have the talent and the story to make it big.

This is the story on how the REO brothers, Reno, RJ, Raymart & Ralph Evasco Otic survives through music, with inspiration and hope for better future.

By Arabelle Jimenez

What happens when a family loses everything during a natural disaster, but never loses hope of survival?  They persevere and catch that glimmer of hope, following their path to a brighter future.  As fate would have it, that glimmer turns out to be a bright star.  And that bright star shines brilliantly on each performance.

This is the beautiful thing that happened to the “band of brothers” from Tacloban, siblings Reno, RJ, Raymart and Ralph, collectively known as the REO Brothers Band.  They shine brightly on stage, beaming at their audience, enjoying what they loved most … performing great music, rendering each beat with heart and soul.

A Success Story in the Aftermath of Yolanda

Haiyan, locally called Yolanda, is the super typhoon which is pegged to be one of the fiercest in the world, struck the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Palawan, Bohol and other islands, leaving a destruction way beyond our imagination.  It has left thousands dead and thousands more homeless.  After weeks of no decent food, water and clothing, many of the families went on exodus, travelling to different parts of the country, many of them finding their way to Manila.

The Otic brothers and their father Rey, who lost everything, save for their priceless guitars, decided to take the two-day bus ride to Manila.  What was their only glimmer of hope?  The lone business card that was given to them a couple of years back by a certain Mr. Reynaldo Fuentes.  “It was amazing that they kept my business card and was found in one of the boys’ wallet”, Fuentes enthused.
The lifeline and mentors. Tom Banguis, Jr., Bobby Caparas, Rannie Raymundo and Reynaldo Fuentes.
Reno, RJ, Raymart, Ralph and their father, Rey, only had their clothes on their backs when they stepped in the Philtranco bus.  Penniless, they promised the bus operator that they will pay their fare as soon as they get a hold of relatives in Manila.  Traveling for two days on candies, biscuits and water, they have finally reached the capital.  Their only lifeline, the business card of Mr. Fuentes, got wet during the typhoon, and it took them another 2 days to have it dried up to decipher the telephone number written on it.  Finally, Fuentes was contacted and he took them in, not to mention that he himself also lost all 3 of his houses in Tacloban.

Everything was a happy blur after that first meeting.  Cramped in a small apartment with 8 people, the boys were just grateful to have found a new home. Fuentes introduced the REO Brothers Band to Mr. Tom Banguis, Jr., who in turn sought Mr. Bobby Caparas, GM at the Primos Cuisine and Lounge.  Like a chain reaction, another co-owner and popular performing artist, Mr. Rannie Raymundo, was summoned to give them a shot to play their music.  “I received a phone call to check out these boys and just listen to their music”, Raymundo reveals. After listening to just a couple of songs, Rannie was floored! The REO Brothers Band was immediately given a spot to perform on the fateful evening of November 28.  And the rest is, as we say, history!  “God has amazing ways to put people together.  It is not by chance that they are here… it is fate”, Raymundo added.
A man for others.  Rannie Raymundo with the REO Brothers Band.
These young men possess amazing talent way beyond their years.  Ages ranging from 19 to 24 years old, they magnificently execute songs from The Beatles, Beachboys, America and other hits of this genre, and later on, transform effortlessly to danceable VST & Co. hits, making their audience get up on their feet.

The newly-inspired audience volunteered different pledges like a new wardrobe, new instruments, and they were offered bookings that will keep them busy in the next couple of weeks.  Mind you, they do not ask for a talent fee.  They are just happy to play and share their music.
Knowing their journey of survival, it is up to the audience to share what they think is proper.  During that first night at Primos, a donation box was passed around.  At the end of the evening, they were able to collect close to Php 37k in cash for the boys and their family.  It was a blessed night, and due to its success, the band was invited to come back and perform again the following evening.

PRIMOS Cuisine and Lounge offers excellent food and entertainment.
