Mythological creatures, aswang, probably the most common of Filipino monsters since there are so many different kinds. Growing up, we were told countless tales about this infamous miscreation in Philippine folklore known as aswang. Always depicted as a flesh eating and ruthless creature hunting for its prey, is that what they really are – mindless killing ghouls?

This TV series about the lives of aswangs in “Tabi po”. Unlike anything on TV these days, Tabi Po shows love, beauty, amidst the horrific lives of these creatures called aswang.

Meet EliasTasyoSabel and other aswangs.

Where did they come from? What is their purpose? Is there more to the massive killing, gore and bloodshed typically associated with them? Know the untold stories behind the aswang in this new cinematic tv masterpiece.
Tabi Po tells the story of Elias, a neophyte aswang. Born from a tree during the country’s Spanish era, Elias embarks on a journey with two older aswangs, Tasyo and Sabel, in the quest to understand their true nature. Along the way, Elias meets Salome, a sex slave of the friars, and falls in love with her. In the middle of a rising revolution, Elias is forced to face his own battles – his love for Salome versus his hunger for flesh, the growing rift between himself and Tasyo, the society's stigma with aswangs, and the battle with his own inner demons.

Find out which side will prevail, Elias’ true bloodthirsty nature or his deep feelings for the girl he loves the most.

TAPADO (Fight for Justice), PH film to conquer int’l market soon

TAPADO (Fight for Justice) Press Conference at Museum Cafe.

TAPADO (Fight for Justice), the Filipino action film to conquer international market next year. Directed by actor-director-writer and martial arts champion Vincent Soberano, announced the filming of "Tapado", Fight for Justice, which has its eyes set on the international market in 2018. According to the multi-hyphenate, the movie will be the Philippines’ answer to Thailand’s “Ong Bak” and Indonesia’s “Raid: Redemption.”

Known for his award-winning films, "Blood Hunters" and "On the Brink: Uncharted Waters," Soberano shared that he's really hopeful that this film would open the eyes of many Filipinos and ignite their pride.

Vincent Soberano
"Filipinos should realize we have lots to be proud of culturally, historically, and that we don’t have to always look to foreigners for inspiration. In terms of martial arts, we have our own, we should be proud of it.”

TAPADO (Fight for Justice) is the story of small town martial arts champion Jacob Casa who infiltrates an international drug syndicate’s underground fighting circuit called “The Trigonal.” He does so after his wife was brutally assaulted and his best friend murdered by the drug lord’s henchmen.

What is "Tapado"?

Tapado is an Original Filipino Martial Art which came from a Hiligaynon (a Filipino dialect) word ‘Tapat’ or ‘Tapos’ which means – finished or done in english or to finish the job in one strike.

This art was founded in 1960 by the late Grandmaster Romeo ‘Nono’ Mamar of Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.

And what is the Filipino Action Film "Tapado" (Fight for Justice)?

The film features a lesser known but extremely effective Filipino martial arts system that originates from the island of Negros. Called Tapado, this fighting method had been kept secret until now by practitioners fortunate enough to be taught by its masters.

Sarah Chang

The movie brings in international action stars such as Sarah Chang from China, Paul Allica from Australia, and China’s top UFC contender, Jingliang aka “The Leech” in his debut acting role.

Ian Ignacio

Also starring in the movie are Monsour del Rosario, Ian Ignacio, Levi Ignacio and Director Soberano himself.

TAPADO (Fight for Justice) is poised to be an indie blockbuster worldwide, setting the bar for local action films.

A full-throttle, high-intensity action film that gathers all the elements of Hollywood action films, the movie presents incredible action cinematography and audio-visual compositions by Japanese cinematographer, Takeyuki Onishi, who directed the photography of “Blood Hunters.”

Principal photography will commence between July and September in Negros, with various picturesque locations such as Bacolod City and Lakawon Island.

Line-produced by industry veteran, Elaine Lozano, with set design by award-winning production designer Fritz Solorio.

Executive producers are Jessie Efeno, Tony Aguirre of Piaya Network, and Oli Laperal of RS Video and Film Productions.

Filipinos, meet Anthony Diaz V: Fall for a new kind of screen hero in “Break”

Who would have imagined how far a China-made digital 4MB SD card palm camera could take a young dreamer’s film making dreams?
In the case of Filipino-American actor-director-producer Anthony Diaz V, it is quite far indeed. “When I was a kid, my family had movie night every Friday,” Anthony recalls. “After every film, I would ask my parents, ‘What motivated the characters’ actions?’”
That sort of set Anthony off on an early film education with his father encouraging his then ten-year-old son to lap up with glee movies like “The Godfather,” “Taxi Driver,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “El Mariachi,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” the list goes on. These are films that Anthony admits “many kids my age at the time wouldn’t be interested in.”

He was, in a manner of speaking, a normal kid whose growing love for films made him a misfit.

Before he was 20, the brawny Anthony Diaz has completed dozens of short films. The independent film making spirit has been evident early on with Anthony multitasking, taking on screen writing, directing, producing, acting, and editing duties. By the time he reached 20, he has already graduated with high honors at the University of Las Vegas Film School (UNLV), making him the youngest graduate in the history of the program.

Anthony has received acclaim for the early short films he made like “Delusion” and “Forgotten Heroes.” In 2012, he put up a film production company called Kaizen Studios in Las Vegas, USA. The following year, he established a satellite of Kaizen Studios in Shibuya, Japan.

Japan is close to Anthony’s heart, having been a frequent visitor to the land of sashimis, cherry blossoms, and top-tier car brands since he was 8. Little wonder then that when he embarked on his first full length feature, Anthony chose to make “Break.”

“Break” can be described in many ways depending on how the viewer sees it but at its core, it is a story about alienation and angst as a young Japanese-American lad is thrown into the underworld while he deals with personal issues as an outsider trying to fit into Japanese society.

It is, in a way, a throwback to Anthony’s childhood when he was watching movies that wouldn’t strike a chord with children his age. He was like a misfit then, as his character in “Break” is. There is a need to find his place in an environment that isn’t very welcoming. Then he loses the girl he loves and the downward spiral begins.

On screen and in photos, Anthony Diaz strikes you as a kind of millennial James Dean, but this time a rebel with a cause, and with a more relatable Liam Neeson-ish vibe. In the movie “Break,” he even does breakdancing in one scene. Clearly, Anthony is the new kind of screen hero who has a good head to match the well-toned physique. And somehow you sense that there is a tenderness that lies beneath the swagger and the action star gait.

But Anthony assures that the similarities between him and his movie character end there. “The movie is not autobiographical at all,” he points out. “Break,” according to him, “was actually inspired from a short film I made when I was 17 years old called ‘Lunch Break’ which I shot with my high school friends in Vegas. The premise of the story is similar, but I expanded the universe and characters against the backdrop of Japan.”

Why should Pinoy audiences not miss “Break?” “This film is really unique as it blends American storytelling with Japanese cinema infused with hip-hop. It’s the first time to my knowledge that a film has simultaneous English and Japanese language throughout the movie with supporting subtitles. But most importantly, the overall theme is of a foreigner trying desperately to fit in. It is what most of us have experienced in some form or another.”

“Break” has had a private screening in Japan last April and its second stop is the Philippines before it heads off to Sundance.
