Finally! Alanis Morissette Manila Concert in August 2023

This is it, Philippines!

Alanis Morissette, Canadian-American singer-songwriter, will finally perform her special one-night concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on August 1, 2023, to celebrate the 28th anniversary of her most recognized and iconic album, Jagged Little Pill.

Her upcoming show in Manila is part of her tour celebrating the supposedly 25th anniversary of her album and was originally scheduled to take place at the MOA Arena on April 2020 but it was moved on December 2021, and November 2022, the shows have been postponed three times because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jagged Little Pill captured the zeitgeist of the mid-'90s by crossing the line between Gen-X cynicism and self-realization. It was pitched somewhere between glitzy mainstream pop and angst-ridden alternative rock. The album, which produced a string of Top 10 songs like "You Oughta Know," "Hand in My Pocket," and "Ironic,". It also won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Making the 21-year-old Morissette the youngest performer to ever win the prestigious honor, the album was ranked number 69 on Rolling Stone’s list of "the 500 best albums of all time."

Morissette won a total of seven Grammys and was nominated fourteen times. Included among her finest songs are You Learn, Head Over Feet, All I Really Want, Thank You, Mary Jane, Uninvited, Perfect, Forgiven, Right Through You, Wake Up, and many more.

And she has been one of the most influential singer-songwriter musicians in contemporary music since 1995. Her deeply expressive music and performances have received widespread praise from critics. Jagged Little Pill, Morissette's debut album from 1995, was followed by nine more eclectic and acclaimed albums. She has composed music for theatrical releases and appeared in films both big and small. Aside from entertainment, she is a strong advocate for female empowerment, as well as spiritual, psychological, and physical well-being. Alanis Morissette launched Conversation with Alanis Morissette in 2016, a monthly podcast featuring conversations with a variety of revered authors, doctors, educators, and therapists on a wide range of psychosocial topics ranging from spirituality to developmentalism to art.

On December 5, 2019, “JAGGED LITTLE PILL” the musical made its Broadway debut at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City. The show was nominated for fifteen Tony Awards and won 2 Tony Awards at the 2021 ceremony. In July of 2020, Alanis released her ninth studio album, Such Pretty Forks In The Road, to rave reviews. In August of 2021, Alanis kicked off her sold out world tour celebrating 25 years of Jagged Little Pill. The tour became the #1 female-fronted tour from 2021 and one of the Top Worldwide Tours of 2021 selling over 500,000 tickets. MMI Live announced Grammy-nominated artist/producer duo, The Chainsmokers, is returning to Manila on September 13 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The group, comprised of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, is set to bring their Memories Asia Tour 2017 to the country following the release of their latest album “Memories…Do Not Open.”

The concert is presented by Globe Telecom and brought to you by MMI Live.

Touted as the hottest young American EDM DJ/producers, the group held their first headlining sold-out concert at the Mall of Asia Arena last August 2016. This year, the release of the new album, “Memories… Do Not Open”, comes alongside the announcement of The Chainsmokers’ biggest ever tour to date now, which includes The Philippines.

The Chainsmokers have evolved into dominating musical force that has led to become today’s hottest young artist/producer duo. Luminous tracks such as the double-platinum “Roses” featuring Rozes (which Stereogum hailed as one of the “10 best songs of the year”) and the chart-topping ‘Bouquet’ EP have fueled their ascent as a breakout duo with an unparalleled ability to craft undeniable pop gems.

“Roses” which reached the Top 5 at Pop Radio and Top 5 on the iTunes Top Songs chart, was followed by “Don’t Let Me Down” featuring Daya marking their third No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. The double-platinum track ruled the airwaves, hitting No. 1 at Pop Radio for three straight weeks and Top 5 on the iTunes Top Songs chart. The Chainsmokers single “Closer” featuring vocals from rising star Halsey and the duo’s own Drew Taggart marked their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and their third Top 10 on the chart, shooting to the #1 spot on iTunes and Spotify upon release and bringing their worldwide streams to over 1.5 billion.

The chart-topping duo has also been nominated for two Billboard Music Awards, two Teen Choice Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. They have performed all over the world to sold-out crowds at their own headline shows and major festivals including SXSW, Ultra and Coachella, where their set was ranked as one of Billboard’s “11 Best Moments” of the festival.

Fans can expect a night of partying to the The Chainsmokers’ hits including “Closer”, “Roses”, “Paris”, “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Something Just Like This” and featuring new production from the new album “Memories… Do Not Open.” The Chainsmokers will be joined by American musician, Nick Martin, as special guest.

Official presenter Globe, gave its customers the chance to be closer to The Chainsmokers with first dibs on an exclusive pre-sale to “Memories Asia Tour 2017” last June 27, 2017.

Autism Society Gets a Virtual Hug from International Community

For the first time in 17 years, Angels Walk – an annual march to bring awareness of autism in the Philippines – was viewed worldwide via livestream. The international autism community, along with families and supporters, saw a record-breaking number of participants march around the SM Mall of Asia grounds coming from inside the jampacked MOA Arena.

Around 24,000 online registrants expressed their interest to participate in this year’s event, with more on the wait-list trooping straight to the venue. The activity started inside the MOA Arena with entertainment coming from talented performers with autism, with no less than Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez cheering from the audience.

ASEAN Deputy Secretary General HE Dr. AKP Mochtan witnessed the event, along with Hans Sy of SM Prime Holdings, Annie Garcia of SM Supermalls, and other leaders from the public sector. Delegates from Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand were also present.

“We consider this event as one virtual group hug. Once a year, if you have a child with autism, you can come to MOA Arena without fear of judgment,” said Mona Magno-Veluz, president of Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP). “The theme is Philippines A-Ok, which means we want the Philippines to be okay with autism. We want a more inclusive society for autistic people where they get equal opportunities.”

“This used to be just a gathering of parents with autism. Today, since we have grown by leaps and bounds, we have to be more sophisticated with mounting our event so we can appeal to this wider audience,” Veluz added.

ASP got a big boost from the free use of the venue, with volunteers giving their expertise in production. SM, through its CSR arm SM Cares, has been supporting Angels Walk since 2007.

“We took the challenge that Mr. Hans Sy gave us a few years back, to raise the number of participants for Angels Walk. True to his word, he gave us MOA Arena as a new venue to accommodate the thousands more who wanted to participate,” said Engr. Bien C. The Calling promises a memorable show on Friday, November 11 at Mall of Asia Arena

Singer-songwriter Alex Band promises a memorable rock show to his Filipino fans when his band multi-platinum band The Calling performs for the first time in the Philippines on Friday, November 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“I am so excited to perform in Manila. We are playing all your favorite songs, all my hits songs, all the songs you want to hear. It’s gonna be a huge show,” said Band, whose song “Wherever You Will Go” was named by Billboard as the Song of the Decade (2000-2010).

And why not? The debut song by The Calling, released in June 2001 as the first single from their debut album Camino Palmero, topped the Adult Top 40 for 23 weeks, the second-longest running No. 1 in the chart’s history. It was named the No. 1 Song of the Decade on the Adult Pop Charts by Billboard magazine.

But The Calling is far from you one-hit wonder as Camino Palmero churned out other hits such as “Adrienne”, “Stigmatized” and “Could It Be Any Harder”.

The Calling broke the sophomore jinx hounded by many artists with their second album Two, which had hits “Things Will Go My Way”, “Our Lives and Anything”. The band’s song “For You” became the lead soundtrack of the movie Daredevil (2003), while “Why Don’t You and I”, a collaboration with Santana, is popularly regarded as a better version of the song, compared to that of Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger’s (who interestingly, wrote it).
