Philippine Homeschool Conference Expo (PHC) : Securing a Child’s Future through Education

The sixth annual Philippine Homeschool Conference Expo (PHC) held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier in Taguig City on October 22, 2016.

With this year’s theme “From roots to wings”, PHC hopes to nourish the firm foundation that they have with parents by continuing to equip them with knowledge and virtues that would help them soar together. The event, led by the Homeschooling Association of the Philippine Islands (HAPI) gathered some of the country’s experts on homeschooling to share their insights on the importance and implications of homeschooling.

Among them was Eric Nicdao, District Manager of Philam Life. Nicdao explained that while there are distinct advantages to homeschooling, it is never without a challenge.

“The cost of education for homeschooling a child is not inexpensive as others perceive it to be”, said Mr. Nicdao.

He further explained that this is because homeschooling entails the presence of one of the parents at home which will potentially reduce the family’s overall income. With the increasing costs of college education, it will be very daunting to have only one breadwinner. Mr. Nicdao also shared why it is important to plan early for the child’s education.

“As a parent myself, I understand the real-life struggles that parents go through to give the best to their children. It is, therefore, wise and even necessary to invest in a plan with guaranteed education benefits even if school-going children are still quite young. Plans like this should have the potential to grow to cope adequately with annual tuition fee hikes.” Nicdao added.

“More to the point, a parent and a child should not have to guess what the future brings. There are too many uncertainties already and having something secure and reliable allows a family to focus on learning and academic excellence rather than trying to make sure that there is a school they can afford.”

To help address these concerns, Philam Life launched a new education product, Future Scholar.

Future Scholar offers guaranteed education benefits and long term growth potential through access to expertly-managed funds. The plan will continue without the need to pay future payments should the payor pass away or suffer total and permanent disability. It is to these concerns that Philam Life’s Future Scholar plan focuses with its guaranteed educational benefits and unique features available like making life insurance coverage for parents or premium adjustments in times of great need.

SM’s Fiesta Mexicana: a promotion of Philippine-Mexican cultural ties

SM Supermalls recently honored the National Day of Mexico with music and fun at SM Aura Premier and SM Megamall, in celebration of the long relationship between SM Supermalls and the Embassy of Mexico in the Philippines in promoting the two countries’ rich cultural bond.

HE Ambassador of Mexico to the Philippines Julio Camarena Villaseñor led the SM Aura celebrations that featured a performance by the world-renowned Mariachi ACHAI, rich Mexican cuisine, and its premier drink tequila.

The Mariachi Achai Ensemble, a group of musicians from the northwestern state of Sinaloa, shared Mexican traditional music and dance with Filipino audiences through performances at SM Aura Premier and SM Megamall.

The Ambassador mentioned that one of Mexico’s greatest cultural contributions to the world is its traditional gastronomical fare, which had been declared by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity – a title shared only by four other countries in the world.
“Perhaps it is within this richness where Mexico and the Philippines became closer. From the Filipinos, Mexico received the buko (coconut) and mango that we call ‘mango de Manila’. An important evangelizing wave converted the Philippines to Catholicism,” Ambassador Villaseñor shared. “Today, the new dynamic of our long and strong ties offers the promise that the historic commercial and cultural relations that make Mexico and the Philippines not only friends, but sister countries, will be renewed and mean for each country the natural bridge to enter their respective geographic region.”
The Ambassador also cited SM’s Acapulco-Manila Galleon Museum as a way of continuously promoting this affiliation. “Through SM’s Galleon Museum, we can have people know more about Mexico and its influence in the Philippines and Asia,” he said.

Vice Consul Luis Gerardo Regalado affirmed the Ambassador’s view. “We are similar in so many ways, yet so different in many cultural aspects. It’s the perfect scenario for investments and business,” the Vice Consul added.

#BondsWorld : Filipino celebrities live the legendary world of Bond with Heineken

HEINEKEN is the world's most international brewer. It is the leading developer and marketer of premium beer and cider brands.

Heineken & Bond

This campaign celebrates the seventh film of the Heineken/Bond partnership, a relationship that began in 1997. Starting with ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’. Heineken was also involved in ‘The World is Not Enough’, ‘Die Another Day’, ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’ and 2012’s ‘Skyfall’.

The world of Bond may seem to be an unattainable fantasy, but there’s nothing that stops Bond aficionados from defining their own legendary world.

Legendary locations, style, technology, villains, and of course, legendary people.

Spectre : A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

Spectre starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, LĂ©a Seydoux and directed by Sam Mendes, written by John Logan (screenplay), Neal Purvis(screenplay).

Celebrities and James Bond fans got a chance to open Bond’s legendary world during Heineken’s exclusive movie screening of Spectre last November 6 at SM Aura.
Leading the pack who trooped to watch the latest instalment of this Heineken-James Bond partnership are no other than actress Maxene Magalona and Philippine Football National Team member Anton del Rosario.

“As a fan of both James Bond and Heineken, I really looked forward to this event. I dressed up like James Bond and even mingled with other Bond fans. I think this is the closest thing to being a James Bond for a night!” shared Anton.

Host and Heineken ambassador Maxene officially opened the screening night and 350 invited guests celebrated the long-time partnership of Heineken and James Bond that spans 17 years.
“It is an exciting time for Heineken here in the Philippines. I hope all the guests here continue to pursue legendary achievements in their own right,” said Mr Tulloch.
HEINEKEN executives such as David Tulloch, Country Manager for HEINEKEN Philippines, were present to witness how Filipinos have warmly welcomed the Heineken and James Bond partnership for the first time in the Philippines.

Other Bond fans present were celebrities who are defining their legendary life in different worlds, such as basketball player Terrence Romeo, celebrity blogger Camille Co, hair stylist Jing Monis, DJ Natalia Moon, actresses Karel Marquez, Jef Gaitan, and Shy Carlos, and actor Alex Castro. Each of them has, in their own ways, displayed the legendary qualities of Agent 007, which makes them stand out in their chosen niche.

Heineken is an international premium lager and was first brewed in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1864. It has since expanded its footprint and is now enjoyed in 192 countries around the world. Heineken is available in the Philippines at leading supermarkets, convenience stores and bars.

UNIQLO with All-New Fleece Concepts for 2015

UNIQLO launches All-New Fleece Concepts for 2015 held at the SM Aura Premiere, Taguig City, October 16, 2015.

UNIQLO announces that it has greatly expanded its lineup of fleece outerwear, including highly fashionable coats and functional windproof jackets for Fall Winter 2015. UNIQLO has also grown its extra warm fleece offering, providing 1.5ÂşC greater warmth.

Fashion Director Daryl Chang

The men’s line includes an expanded range of windproof fleece, with a special film between the inner and outer material to keep out drafts.

This wind-resistant functionality has been incorporated in soft and comfortable pile lined fleece jacket, Sherpa fleece jacket in trendy khaki or camouflage colors, and faux mouton fleece jacket, with the last designed as a mouton jacket, rather than a fleece. The windproof film has been improved from last year, making it appropriate as an outerwear, also reducing stiffness.

The women’s line features four new types of coats, each with a unique silhouette - a trendy teddy fleece coat, fluffy fleece coat, pile lined fleece coat, and windproof fleece coat. They are suitable to any setting, from fashionable, to casual, to sporty.

The UNIQLO Fall Winter 2015 features an expanded lineup of styles incorporating fleece made from special fibers that harnesses the sun’s energy, providing 1.5ÂşC greater inner warmth.

Along with standard jacket types, this extra warm fleece is available in parkas and print fleece, as well as women’s fluffy fleece jackets and kids’ print fleece jackets.

I attended the launch of Uniqlo All-New Fleece Concept 2015 at the SM Aura Premiere last October 16 and my favorite,  blacks, whites, grays.

And I always like these jackets as they are suitable to any setting, from fashionable, to casual, to sporty and very wearable in many places. even places not that cold.

The Reyes Family in their Uniqlo Fleece, Andi Manzano-Reyes, GP Reyes and Baby Olivia who is so cute and looks like mallows. They shared about their travels and how Uniqlo clothes kept them warm during their family trips in in colder climate countries. And they are so excited on their next trip in Japan, with Uniqlo Fleece.

The cross-section of these special fibers is in a “C” shape that retains dead air to enhance warmth. Finally, the line includes an expanded range of check and bi-color designs, as well as those from UNIQLO’s MAGIC FOR ALL collaboration with Disney, which launched for Fall Winter 2015.
