ADULTING #FEELS ON COKE STUDIO SEASON 3

Rapper Al James and indie band Lola Amour felt an instant rapport when they met to discuss their Coke Studio Season 3 collaboration.

“Match yung energy namin! They’re all so young so you feel that youthful vibe from them,” Al James said of their first meeting.

On Lola Amour’s part, lead singer Pio Dumayas has this to say on working with a hip-hop artist, “We really believe that there is strength in numbers and so adding one more genre to the music can only be good. For us, we were just thinking of what could make a great song.”

Lola Amour is composed of eight musicians, seven of whom were part of a marching band in De La Salle Zobel and the youngest member is from the Philippine High School of the Arts. Joining Pio are backing vocalist and keyboardist Martin Kim, backing vocalist and bassist Raymond King, guitarist Mico Fernandez, guitarist Zoe Gonzales, trumpeter Angelo Messina, saxophonist JoxxPerez and drummer Renzo Santos.

Raymond speaks for the band when he says, “Music is what keeps us sane…especially at this stage when we’re starting to face responsibilities…adulting na kami!”

And Al echoes this sentiment. “Early on, from childhood, music started as an escape from reality until it became a kind of therapy, especially ngayon sa life and career ko…”

Pio puts it this way—"Music is what helps us to see, to see each other and who we really are.” And who they are is a unique combination of verve, spunk and swag, all rising to the challenge of adulting under the spotlight.

Watch Al James and Lola Amour as they collaborate on Coke Studio Season 3. Catch them on October 19, Saturday, at 10 a.m. on ABS-CBN or on https://www.youtube.com/CokeStudioPH.

The 90s Anthems ! “90s Overload” at The Theatre at Solaire

Sweet, rock and a whole lot of bold, the 90s were an era of statement making music that shook the core and revitalized Philippine music. Hear the pulse raising hits in “90s Overload” happening on November 17, 2018 at The Theatre at Solaire.

“90s Overload reminisces the era when Original Pilipino Music (OPM) found its footing in the rock scene. The grungy, attitude-filled acoustics merged with the soulful lyrics that is normally the signature of our ballads were what made it appealing and relatable. The 90s music were statement makers which made them click with a wide audience then, and even with today’s younger generation,” says Solaire Resort & Casino’s Director for Entertainment Audie Gemora.

Photo shows: (Left to right) Dodong Cruz of The Youth, Perf de Castro of Rivermaya, Myra Ruaro of Put3ska, and Glenn Jacinto of Teeth; Stephen Lu of Rizal Underground, Noel Palomo of Siakol, Lei Bautista of Prettier than Pink, and Jek Manuel of IAXE Band; Cookie Chua of Color It Red, Wency Cornejo of After Image, Naldy Padilla of Orient Pearl, and Paco Arespacochaga of Introvoys.

The concert will bring together the 90s most iconic band voices to sweep its audience onto its currents. Jek Manuel of IAXE Band, Cooky Chua of Color It Red, Lei Bautista of Prettier than Pink, Paco Arespacochaga of Introvoys, Perf De Castro of Rivermaya, Glenn Jacinto of Teeth, Wency Cornejo of After Image, Myra Ruaro of Put3ska, Naldy Padilla of Orient Pearl, Dodong Cruz of The Youth, Stephen Lu of Rizal Underground and Noel Palomo of Siakol will sing their most prolific songs to bring in the nostalgia tide after tide.

Myra Ruaro of Put3ska shares that the 90s music scene was a time when ingenuity was abundant, “The Pinoy 90s music scene was the time of great musical opportunities for artists and bands with truly creative and unique original compositions. There was so much talent coming from the rock scene and the musicians’ diverse musical personas made the vibe truly exciting and progressive.” The diversity in sound, interpretation and style created a culture where each is a mentor to the other, “Everyone knew everyone and supported each other’s music. Though we had our own unique sound and identity, we were all part of one community, one family, one barkada,” says Prettier than Pink’s Lei Bautista.

The era’s richness in musical material that spoke to one in a personal level made it difficult for most to pick which they would consider as their 90s anthem. But for some, there are songs that are more long-lasting than others. Cooky Chua of Color It Red cites “Nanaman” from their band’s first album, “Ito yung pinaka unang kantang nasulat ng banda namin for Ateneo Fair”, while for Rizal Underground’s Stephen Lu, “It would be “Alapaap”. The lyrics brings us to a different level of high. The music has its rock feel but with pop sensibilities”.

Asked what they’re looking forward to in their upcoming concert, the four artists gave the same answers. “We want to bring back the audience to the 90s and recreate the same energy and atmosphere while we get to hang out with old and new artist friends, says Lei. Cooky adds, “Sabi ko nga kay Wency (Cornejo), I do this for the friendship and bonding. It feels good to hang out with the artists na kasama dito, hindi trabaho.”

Concert goers will definitely witness a big jamming session of their favorites 90s anthems that will make them unconsciously bob their heads, sing along, and jump up from their seats.

Male singing goup 26HUNDREDB.C stages launching concert at the City of Pines

ASIAN ARTISTS AGENCY, INC. (AAAI) has discovered five golden voices in Baguio City.

The all-male quintet which calls itself 26HUNDREDB.C is now part of the growing roster of talents of the artist management company.

26HUNDREDB.C will be launched in a concert at the Forest Lodge, Camp John Hay in Baguio City on August 11, Friday and at the SM City Baguio Event Center on August 12, Saturday. Both concerts will have as guest another Asian Artists Agency talent, the duo Miko and Gabriel. Also featured in the launch is singer/comedienne Jenny Gabriel, a Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist.

26HUNDREDB.C members were discovered during auditions conducted by Boy Abunda, president and CEO of AAAI.

The group is composed of Karl Russel Rillorta, Arian Anglo, Robert Co, John Carlo Opulencia and Janriel Abance. They all come from Baguio City and were schoolmates at the University of Baguio.

The group revealed they were clueless and unaware that a new world was opening right before their eyes when they passed the auditions. They were hand-picked by Boy Abunda from the number of hopeful young men and women who braved the rain and skipped school to join the auditions.

The presence of Tito Boy was too much to handle, nakakalula,” quipped John Carlo who sings OPM. "We were scared to death. Halos di kami makapagsalita. Tito Boy is an overwhelming presence," said Janriel.

When asked what’s behind the name 26HundredB.C., Janriel explained, "Naming the group was a big challenge. Everyone offered a suggestion. But only one name really stuck in everyone’s mind. 26Hundred is the zip code of Baguio City and we are proud of our place."

B.C was added because everybody comes from Baguio City.

Janriel, an indie music lover also added “our name is very clever, it’s easy to remember and it is our identity.”

As a young vocal group, the hardest struggle was the differences in their personalities. “We didn’t know each other,” said Robert, a jazz and theater music lover.

Arian, who is fond of pop-rock music, alternative and OPM admitted that they have diverse musical influences.

Karl Russel who likes jazz and R&B, pointed out that despite their personality differences and music genre variances, they gel and connect with each other perfectly.

Their contrasting and diverse musical backgrounds serve as the group's musical base.

Kean Cipriano battle with the devil in “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil”

Callalily vocalist and actor Kean Cipriano is in hair pulling battle with devil in in the much-awaited horror-comedy film, “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil.”

The 28-year-old actor, who has tried playing different characters in the past years, now in his most challenging role yet, Kean is excited because we are seeing a different side of him. What made the task exceptionally challenging, is his role which happens to be a gay priest!

“For me, that’s the thing naman with acting—you get to be someone you can’t be in real life. Like I can’t be a priest pero nagawa ko siya because it was my character in the movie,” Kean said.
Kean takes on the role of Father Nick, an exorcist-priest who is secretly gay. Kean’s character is called upon to cast out a gay demon that has possessed the body of a gigolo named Carlo (Alex Medina) after the untimely death of the latter’s gay lover, Kristoff (John Lapus).

Being someone who believes in the forces of good and evil, Kean was extraordinarily interested in the role.

“It was also one of the most challenging things I’ve done in my career and it certainly fulfilled a dream.”

“Everything is possible in love”

Since “Echorsis” tackles the sensitive topic of same-sex relationships and identity crises, Kean has been asked for his views on the LGBT community.

“I love them, especially in this industry. In anything they do, gay people are really intense, they are bright. I have tremendous respect for them. Hindi naman sa gender nagbi-base ang mga bagay sa mundo. Nasa puso ng tao, sa good intentions,” he declares.
Kean even believes that a straight guy can fall for a gay person because everything is possible in love.

“Of course! In love, anything goes. When you’re in love, you go crazy; you don’t know what you are doing. You’ll drown and float at the same time, so you swim,” Kean muses.

Not quite a comedian

Kean has been doing a lot of comedies lately—on TV or the movies. Still, he doesn’t consider himself a comedian. He stresses that the people behind him and the materials he is given are what makes him effective in such roles.

Kean said:
“Hindi naman talaga ako nagpapatawa, ang nagpapatawa ‘yung script, ang nagpapatawa ‘yung mismong material, yung director.”
“I’m just grateful and blessed to be part of a comedy production that has good materials.”

The musician-turned-actor confesses that he has simply fallen in love with acting and just wants to share the beauty of film making with everyone. He loves being an instrument in telling one’s story.

“I’m an actor! Gusto ko lang gumawa ng mga pelikula, whether indie or mainstream. It’s all about storytelling. Kumbaga, it’s a matter of portraying a character and being an instrument of the director to tell the story that he/she wants to relate to the world,” he says.
Kean, who says that he worked with the best people in “Echorsis,” recognizes the box-office potential of the movie and believes that there is a strong chance that the movie will have a cult following.

“Laugh trip ‘pag napanood nila ‘yung pelikula! Sasabihin nila sa mga kaibigan nila, ‘Uy panoorin mo tong pelikulang Echorsis dahil natuwa ako’,” Kean gushes about the movie that was produced by Chris Cahilig of Insight 360, directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Lemuel Lorca, and written by Jerry Gracio. “I’m excited for everyone to see it!”

Completing the ensemble cast of “Echorsis” are Alessandra de Rossi, Chokoleit, Kiray Celis, Mich Liggayu, Ruby Ruiz, Negi Negra, Bekimon, Nico Antonio, Francine Garcia, Odette Khan, and 1:43’s Yuki Sakamoto, Anjo Resurreccion, Gold Aquino, and Yheen Valero.

“Echorsis” is supported by BellaVita Land Corp. and McJim Classic Leather.

OPPO F1’s Selfie Expertise Stands Out at Phone x Music Festival with Sarah G

OPPO held the Philippines’ biggest Phone x Music Festival at the Globe Circuit Event Grounds in Makati City for the O-Fans.

Spotlight onOPPO F1’s Selfie Expertise

The OPPO Music Fest, headlined by OPPO endorser Sarah Geronimo, Up Dharma Down, Marc Marasigan, Victor Pring, Marga on the Mic, Kat DJ, and Deuce Manila’s Patty Tiu,brought to the fore the selfie expertise of the F1.

One major attraction for the crowd, for example, was a replica of the camera phone, which was attached to a giant selfie stick – the biggest one used in a festival in the Philippines. They got to take photos of themselves with what’s happening during the event as their background.

Activities like the OPPO Amazing Race, Caught on Cam, and Photo Scavenger Hunt revolved around the OPPO F1’s sophisticated front-camera experience as well.

“Majority of our users comprise the youth,” said OPPO Philippines’ brand marketing manager Stephen Cheng. “Technology and music are an integral part of their culture and digital lives. And what better way to celebrate both than by organizing a phone-slash-music festival. We hope that through this activity, we get to support the local music scene as well.“

MAGIC! Coming to Manila on October 22

MAGIC!, one of today’s hottest bands that brought us the smash hits “Rude” and “Don’t Kill The Magic” is coming to Manila on October 22 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resort’s World Manila for their first-ever concert tour.

When something is meant to be, you just know it immediately. It's as if there was a divine plan or universal synergy fusing the right elements together at the right time for the right situation. That's the feeling Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Nasri experienced the first time MAGIC! jammed. During a writing session in 2012, he heard collaborator and guitarist Mark Pelli strum a reggae-tinged riff, and something clicked.

"I'm a huge fan of The Police, and I always wanted to do my own project that merged reggae, rock, pop, and a little soul for quite some time," he affirms.

"The moment Mark began playing, it felt natural. We had this vision, and it all tied together instantly. We began recording, and the sound was so locked in on every song. That's even where we derived the band name. Everything simply worked like MAGIC!"

That sound distills Caribbean flavor, arena-size bombast, and glistening melodies into an undeniably intoxicating musical potion. Soon after that initial jam, drummer Alex Tanas and bassist Ben Spivak joined the fold as the quartet entered a Los Angeles studio to record its full-length 2013 debut. There weren't any boundaries or rules. It was all about following that collective muse. "We started recording, and it was so easy," adds Nasri.

"We're all from Toronto originally. We know the same streets, and we grew up on the same music. It's the real thing." It's also real catchy. The first single "Rude" coasts from a Jamaican guitar twang and danceable beat into a downright irresistible refrain. At the same time, the singer's cheeky storytelling pops out vividly. "I had this picture in my head of a guy asking a father for his marriage blessing and getting rejected," he says. "It's fun, soulful, easy, and you know the hook right away. That's what we want our songs to do."

Elsewhere, "No Evil" builds up into an anthemic chant, while "Let Your Hair Down" is meant to get bodies grooving. "I think that one will be a favorite for a lot of the ladies—or at least I hope," laughs Nasri. "It's about letting loose and having a great time."

That's what MAGIC! do best. As one half of the in-demand writing and production duo The Messengers, Nasri has penned music for everybody from Justin Bieber, Pitbull to Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera. He garnered a Grammy Award in the category of "Best R&B Album" for Chris Brown's F.A.M.E. in 2012. However, he's formally embarked on a new phase in his already illustrious career. "I want everybody to join us on this MAGIC! adventure," he concludes. "It's a stressful time out there, and people are struggling to find hope in balance. This music is meant to put you in a good mood. We want to bring people together to have a good time. It's not about us. It's about the music. We want you to be a part of that energy and a positive musical world."

Tickets to MAGIC! Live in Manila will be on-sale beginning Friday, September 19 via ticketworld.com.ph or call 374-9999 or 891-9999. Follow Wilbros Live for more information and updates (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: @WilbrosLive)

The Yahoo on the Road bus, as part of this year’s Yahoo Celebrity Awards, is fully equipped with mobile phones and tablets where students experienced Yahoo’s latest products, took photos at the Flickr photobooth, and made requests for performers they want to see at the Yahoo Celebrity Awards Night to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena on July 18, 2014.

The bus served as a stage where the bands performed. Aside from the emerging bands who performed, Rocksteddy and Sponge Cola brought the house down at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Lyceum, respectively.

Nitin Mathur, Senior Director, Marketing, Yahoo Asia Pacific, attended the event at FEU and commented, “We are overwhelmed with the energy and enthusiasm we have seen during the campus visits. Yahoo on the Road brings the Yahoo mobile experience closer to students, allowing them to try out the latest Yahoo products, while getting closer to their favorite performers.”

Kate Delos Reyes, Country Manager and Country Editor of Yahoo Philippines shares, “Yahoo on the Road is a new addition to the Yahoo Celebrity Awards and another way that we are honoring the fans who are, really, the stars of this endeavor.

From day one, we have acknowledged that the success of Yahoo Celebrity Awards is because it is ‘powered by you’, the millions of fans who vote for their favorite celebrities.”
