7-Eleven Earmarks 711 Million In Support For Franchisees: Borrow as needed. Pay when able. Interest-free.

Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), the exclusive licensor of 7-Eleven in the Philippines, announced their Pandemic Support Program (PSP) during the first online Franchise Town Hall Meeting in early June, and began disbursing funds on June 20. 

Jose Victor Paterno, PSC President and CEO, said, 

“We recognized immediately that the country’s (and the world’s) battle with Covid-19 would be long and painful, so the first thing we did was request our bankers for an increase in our credit lines. Thankfully, they responded quickly and generously, and our next focus became how to deploy this access to capital strategically during the pandemic. The PSP is one such example.”

As of end Q1, the company had Php 6.1B in cash and Php 1.8B in debt. It reported profits of Php 104M from its 2,916 stores. However, due to the pandemic, 22% of its stores were closed as of end April, and 11% as of end May. 

Paterno added,

“We remain highly confident in the worst case that we will get to the other side of this not just intact, but stronger. Aside from our resilient and innovative culture, we can also count on continuing access to debt and capital markets. Others in our ecosystem are not so fortunate, so in the spirit of bayanihan, we need to do our part to get them through this storm.

But don’t get me wrong, we are in the same boat as our franchisees with regard to profitability challenges -- just because you can borrow doesn’t mean you’ll make money, just that you’ll survive for longer until you do. You’ll see when we release our Q2 numbers how profits will be extremely challenging for the foreseeable future. We are cutting costs across the board, including forced leaves, retrenchments, and a freeze on hiring, salary increases, and store openings.” 

Paterno is also calling on landlords to share the pain. 

“Most of our 1,000+ franchisees have to pay rent, and we are doing our part to ensure they survive. We are now asking our landlords to do theirs, because if they do not, the franchisee will have to close the store, as will we for our corporate-run stores. We have a very long list of unprofitable stores right now, and we expect the situation to continue until December at the very least. If and when that happens, expect that space to be vacant for a very long time -- we were going to build 400 new stores this year, but have frozen expansion for the foreseeable future. I believe other chains are in a similar situation.”

According to the contract addendum for the PSP, it was designed so that franchisees would not be out of pocket on a monthly basis, allowing them to draw down on the program’s credit line as needed. If and when the franchisee’s situation improves, he or she commits to paying down the credit line monthly, at zero interest. Should he or she choose to no longer continue as a franchisee, all outstanding balances from the PSP will be forgiven. 

Waldo Abad Santos, Co-Chairperson of the PSC Franchise Advisory Council, said, “Franchisees proudly share the 7-Eleven culture of service in times of crisis, such as typhoons and other natural disasters. But this is no calamity that lasts a week, and many of us were worried where we’d find capital to continue to serve when we were losing so much. Nobody wants to lend it seems, so we are grateful the PSP was launched to enable us to continue serving our communities. When all this is over, PSC’s concrete commitment to long-term partnership is something we franchisees will never forget -- I personally don’t know of any other franchisor supporting its franchisees to this extent.”

When asked why 711M pesos, Paterno said, “Well, we’re prepared to commit around that amount for now, so might as well pick a lucky number so that all this ends quicker than we expect.”

7-Eleven opens its first stores in MIMAROPA Region

Your favorite kapitbahay, 7-Eleven, has finally landed on the shores of Oriental Mindoro!



April 18 was a day full of celebration as 7-Eleven opened in Sabang, Puerto Galera and in the City of Calapan. With the unveiling of the two stores, lots of activities and an exciting promo were prepared especially for the locals of Oriental Mindoro. The event kicked off in Sabang, Puerto Galera with a ribbon cutting and a store blessing ceremony. Distinguished guests Mayor Rockey D. Ilagan of Sabang, Puerto Galera, and Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC) President and CEO, Jose Victor Paterno were in attendance, as well as other officials and partners of 7-Eleven.

The celebration continued in Calapan City later that afternoon, where Calapan City Mayor, Arnan C. Panaligan also graced the grand opening of the 7-Eleven Calapan store.

To make the celebration extra special for the locals of Mindoro, 7-Eleven prepared an exclusive promo,Slurpee Bring Your Own Cup, where local customers can bring their own cup of any size, as long as it fits the cut-out hole present at the store, fill their own cup with Slurpee and pay only P36.

“Opening our first two stores in Sabang, Puerto Galera and Calapan is a special achievement since 7-Eleven is the first convenience retailer to be present in the whole MIMAROPA region,” PSC President Jose Victor Paterno said. “The increasing rate of tourism and commercialization as well as the fast development of the province, especially Calapan, paved the way for our expansion in the Southern area. With this, we look forward to bringing world-class convenience and service not only for the locals of Mindoro but as well as to the tourists who visit this paradise.”

This year, 7-Eleven is looking at opening 10 more stores for the whole region of MIMAROPA. Other than Mindoro, 7-Eleven will also be expanding to other parts of Luzon such as Isabela, Tuguegarao, and Nueva Vizcaya this year. As of March 2018, the leading convenience chain store in the country, 7-Eleven, has a total store network of 2,331, more than 50% of which are franchise stores.

DREAM JOB ALERT! 7-ELEVEN is willing to pay someone to eat food !


Your favorite kapitbahay, 7-Eleven, has a job vacancy that needs to be filled immediately! It might sound surreal, but this is definitely not a drill, 7-Eleven offers you your dream job where you get paid by simply eating free food!

7-Eleven is searching for someone to host a “Mukbang” video series for them. The show will feature 7-Eleven products such as Slurpee, Big Bite, and other treats from partner brands like Selecta Ice Cream. If you’ve been living under a rock, Mukbang is an online trend where a host films himself/herself while consuming large quantities of food.



Just like any other conventional job, hopeful applicants need to possess certain requirements to be considered for the position. For starters, the application is exclusively for all 7-Eleven customers that have the CLiQQ app installed on their mobile devices. Second, and more importantly, applicants need to have a big appetite and a unique way of eating that can attract and entice audiences or in Filipino, nakakatakam kumain. And to make the application process more interesting, 7-Eleven sets no age limit so anyone can apply!

Eating free food in front of a camera is not a real job unless you get paid for it, so 7-Eleven also prepared a competitive compensation package for the chosen Master Eater. For a duration of 7 weeks and 11 days, the luckiest applicant will earn 711 pesos per day! Not bad just for eating food, right? And to make it more exciting, the Master Eater would get a bonus of 711,000 pesos if he/she gets 2,000,000 Filipinos to download the CLIQQ app during his/her tenure as the Master Eater.

7-Eleven and Habitat Philippines to build homes and schools for Yolanda-affected families in Culion, Palawan

7-Eleven partner with Habitat for Humanity. With a commitment that will build 160 homes and 2 schools in Yolanda affected indigenous community in Culion, Palawan, Jose Victor P. After Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) levelled their province, some 150 families in Culion, Palawan will finally have the opportunity to rebuild their lives, as 7-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd. and PhilSeven Foundation Inc. (PFI) committed to provide them with new decent homes, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP). 

Families of Barangay de Carabao will be able to sleep soundly with the promise of 160 new environment-friendly, disaster-resilient homes. On top of shelter, the community will also be given two school buildings, which can accommodate up to 140 students, and doubles as evacuation centers in case of calamities.

Barangay de Carabao is located in the island of Culion, at the northern part of Palawan province, where there was virtually no media exposure of the destruction Yolanda dealt the province in 2013.

“The funds generated together by 7-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd.’s and PhilSeven Foundation Inc. aims to help communities, most especially in far-flung areas, significantly alleviating poverty and improve children’s education,” said Jose Victor Paterno, Chairman of PFI. “Through this assistance program, indigenous families whose only source of livelihood are farming and fishing in Culion are provided with the means to uplift their quality of life.”

The Barangay de Carabao rebuilding project is set to begin by January 2016, and is projected to be completed by the end of the same year.

For HFHP’s part, Managing Director and CEO Charlie Ayco said, “We are thankful to 7-Eleven Japan and PFI for partnering with us and heeding the call to help our Filipino brothers and sisters in need of dignified housing.”

7-Eleven takes Filipino dishes to the next level ! Try Chef Creations Bistek Tagalog and Pork Binagoongan !

7-Eleven opens first store in Boracay

7-Eleven has always given their customers what they need anytime of the day. Thanks to 7-Eleven as they make daily life easier by providing modern convenience.


Here's the great news. Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), country licensee of the world’s leading convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, finally opened its first two stores in Aklan, located in Caticlan Jetty Port and Tourist Center, Station 3.


PSC’s grand opening celebration of its first Boracay store was held on May 29, 2015. PSC will end the year with three stores in Boracay and Aklanons can expect a total of 11 stores to open in the span of 3 years.

With all the establishments that have opened in Boracay, people may wonder, where’s our favorite convenience store? After all, Boracay is a destination that never sleeps, making it the perfect candidate for a 7-Eleven. 


“We’re excited to be in Boracay, it is a very promising market that is still growing. We are happy that 7-Eleven is the first international convenience store to open in one of the top tourist destinations in the country,” said Jose Victor Paterno, PSC President and CEO.

PSC started its operations of 7-Eleven in the Philippines in 1982 and it now has 1,372 stores to date. It recently opened its first store in Mindanao at Abreeza Mall last May 8, 2015.

Locals and tourists will now be able to enjoy the unique offerings that made the store loved by its patrons. Customers can expect to get a taste of the iconic frozen drink, Slurpee, especially in the midst of the summer heat.

To make the grand opening more exciting, 7-Eleven is launching a special, limited edition offering exclusively for Boracay. Given that the island is one of the country’s top summer destinations, it seemed only appropriate to pay homage with the Slurpee Boracay Tub. For only P159, customers can enjoy 85oz of glorious Slurpee. The tubs come in two cute designs they can choose from. 

Bonus: The tubs are made of plastic, which means customers can collect and reuse them. Slurpee sand buckets, anyone?

7-Eleven kicks off expansion into Mindanao

Davaoeños can now enjoy 24/7 convenience of 7-Eleven everyday!

Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), the country's largest convenience store chain operator, launched its business expansion in Mindanao on May 8, 2015 with the grand opening of its first 7-Eleven store in "The Land of Promise."


As part of 7-Eleven’s strategy to maintain market share, the company continues to protect and expand its leadership by continuing to grow its store expansion rate. Aside from securing its foothold in Luzon and Visayas, PSC aims to capture a new market in Mindanao. 

“We’re excited to be in Mindanao, especially since it’s a very attractive market and we look forward to seeing its potential, which is why we’re committed to jumping in with both feet,” said Jose Victor Paterno, PSC President and CEO.


Located within Abreeza Mall in Davao is the first of the 50 targeted 7-Eleven stores to be opened in the cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro this year. 

7-Eleven aims to open 30 stores in Davao and 20 in Cagayan de Oro respectively by year-end. And by June, PSC will have 4 other operational stores to be followed by 12 more sites by September in both Davao City and Cagayan de Oro.


Following 7-Eleven’s Mindanao opening on May 8, will be a series of store openings at Ulas Crossing in Davao and George Town Cybermall and Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro. PSC targets to open 120 stores in Mindanao in the next 3 years.

7-Eleven aims to lead the convenience store industry in Mindanao, beginning in the two cities that have been experiencing an increase in tourist arrivals and per capita income in the past few years. 

Among the other potential key cities PSC is eyeing for future expansion include General Santos, Bukidnon, and Iligan. 

Expanding into Mindanao also marks a vision realized for the late PSC Founding Chairman, Vicente T. Paterno – for 7-Eleven to go national. With Mindanao having been close to his heart, the first store in Mindanao is being dedicated in his honor. 

Mr. Paterno was an ardent advocate for Mindanao’s development and worked tirelessly to further its growth. He had been named “Adopted Son of Mindanao” for prioritizing policy supporting Mindanao's development over his two decades in government.
